Grandma’s Sauce and Sausage
If you haven’t made this sauce yet, give it a try. The ingredients are simple as is the method. To me that’s a sign a recipe is authentic. Personally, I just don’t have time for recipes I need to read 10x to understand and then have to buy a basket full of ingredients. For me, my “Grandma Style” works best.
You’ll need:
- 2 lbs of Italian sweet sausage meat removed from the casing, cut into 1″ pieces.
- 2 28-ounce cans of Italian plum tomatoes crushed by hand
- 4 cloves of garlic sliced
- 1/2 cup sliced onion
- 2-bay leaves
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbs extra virgin olive oil
Directions:
- In a pot heat the olive oil and toss in the garlic, onion, and sausage.
- Once the sausage is browned add the tomatoes with all the juice and the salt.
- Stir everything together, bring to a boil then lower the heat and simmer un-covered for 45-minutes. Remove the bay leaves.
This is enough sauce for a couple pounds of pasta. Use some today and freeze the rest for another day. But remember always heat the sauce in a skillet then add your pasta that has been cooked 2-min short of recommended time and finish the pasta in the sauce. I love this sauce so much and I make it often. Give it a try, I am telling you, you will LOVE it.
