Grandma’s Sauce and Sausage

Screen Shot 2016-04-12 at 10.58.24 AMIf you haven’t made this sauce yet, give it a try. The ingredients are simple as is the method. To me that’s a sign a recipe is authentic. Personally, I just don’t have time for recipes I need to read 10x to understand and then have to buy a basket full of ingredients. For me, my “Grandma Style” works best.

You’ll need:

  • 2 lbs of Italian sweet sausage meat removed from the casing, cut into 1″ pieces.
  • 2 28-ounce cans of Italian plum tomatoes crushed by hand
  • 4 cloves of garlic sliced
  • 1/2 cup sliced onion
  • 2-bay leaves
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbs extra virgin olive oil

Directions:

  1. In a pot heat the olive oil and toss in the garlic, onion, and sausage.
  2. Once the sausage is browned add the tomatoes with all the juice and the salt.
  3. Stir everything together, bring to a boil then lower the heat and simmer un-covered for 45-minutes. Remove the bay leaves.

This is enough sauce for a couple pounds of pasta. Use some today and freeze the rest for another day. But remember always heat the sauce in a skillet then add your pasta that has been cooked 2-min short of recommended time and finish the pasta in the sauce. I love this sauce so much and I make it often. Give it a try, I am telling you, you will LOVE it.
