Stove Top Baked Ziti

Stove Top Baked Ziti

I know, doesn’t make sense. This is such a simple way to make a easy pasta dish. I love baked ziti in the oven but when I make this version I also really love it. The flavors are true to what they are and if you didn’t tell me this wasn’t made in the oven, I wouldn’t know. Cleanup is simple, one pot to boil the pasta and a skillet. Simple.

You’ll need:

  • 1/2 lb of ziti
  • 8-ounces of ricotta cheese
  • 8-ounces of mozzarella cheese shredded
  • 1/2-cup of grated pecorino Romano cheese.
  • 3-cups of tomato sauce

Directions:

  1. Add the sauce to a 12″ skillet and heat till it begins to boil.
  2. Cook your ziti 2 minutes short of recommended time, strain and add to the sauce.
  3. Lower the heat to low and add the pasta to the sauce fold to fully coat the pasta.
  4. Add 1/2 of the ricotta, 1/2 the Romano, 1/2 the mozzarella and mix well being sure everything is fully mixed together.
  5. Top with remaining mozzarella, romano and ricotta and then cover with a lid. Do not remove the cover and while you continue to cook it for 2 minutes.
  6. Turn off and remove the skillet from the heat and let it sit for 5 more minutes, do not remove the lid.
  7. Serve directly from the skillet.
